This weekend

This weekend I have had plenty of time to experiment and get my hands dirty with raw food.
I'm writing this in the beautiful Sunday morning weather of an unusual Wellington weekend. Feels kind of Mediterranean!

With my boyfriends family here I had had little time to try all my new ideas so I have crammed them all into a couple of days. The ideas just started flowing about Friday midday with aspirations to make raw pecan pie, nutella, crackers, bread and find a raw substitute for hot chips!

So far this weekend I have made raw flaxseed crackers (all gone!) Carrot cake, started coconut kefir, Russel James'es Curried Cabbage Rolls (REALLY GOOD!) bought the ingredients for raw bread, and have coconut meat ready for pumpkin pie and pad thai.

I also just looked through my notes and ideas on raw food and thought wow I have enough ideas in there to make my own cookbook! so when I try them all You may see them up here.

And all these creations were happening while my flatmate was making a sickly sweet white chocolate creation, I haven't touched it yet! My resistance is strong and my own yummy raw treats are better.

I better start making the rest of my list and stop longing for an Excalibur dehydrator and a vitamix.

Lots of love life and raw!

My First Solution

Okay I found my first substitute for a cooked food that I can't live without.
Yesterday at midnight I made my first raw ice cream from Natalia Rose's Detox Diet recipes

Strawberry ice cream that tastes exactly like the real thing! How cool is that?
Here's my picture:

And this is how I made it
I halved it and it filled an expensive ice cream or gelato container

MAKES ABOUT 4 CUPS

Meat of two young coconuts
Two bags of frozen strawberries (pref organic)
Eight packets of stevia (I didn't do this but put in a bit of agave syrup)
Six organic pitted dates
One teaspoon of organic strawberry extract (I used a vanilla bean pod)
Four cups of ice cubes

Blend all the ingredients and 1 cup of the ice in a high speed blender, add the remaining ice or as much as you need to reach the desired consistency (smooth and flowing) and freeze.

Voila!

You may have to get the icream out about 1/2 hour before you want to eat it to make it softer.

Number One

This is my first day of trying something new.

Today I am reading about the next step in Raw or Live Food the difference between 100 and 99% consuming raw food in 12 Steps to Raw (Victoria Boutenko) and the addiction to cooked food.
I am addicted to cooked food and I wish to be different, my favorite cooked foods are Pasta, Chocolate, Yummy home baking, Porridge, Cream and Milky things like Hot Chocolate and Chesecake, Restaurant foods, ICECREAM and anything my boyfriend has like hot chips and snacks crackers.
I am on the journey to find alternatives to these foods the raw way and will tick them off as I find them.
Not only to I want to end my addiction to cooked food, now that I will have free time not dedicated to cooking and consuming foods I want to write this blog regularly (So pull me up if I haven’t written anything recently) improve my spiritual well-being (right now am reading Esther and Jeremy Hicks books) like running and cardio workouts in Body Conditioning, learn how to fast and redecorate my apartment.
